Privacy policy of the Fil app
Last updated: 29 October 2026 · applies to the Android app “Fil” (package name de.softwaredahl.inventar)
In short: Fil works entirely on your device. The app has no account, no ads, no analytics or tracking services and does not connect to the internet by itself. I only receive your data if you explicitly send me something – a bug report or a filament report by email.
1. Controller
Frank Dahl (Software Dahl)Hainstr. 7, 12439 Berlin, Germany
Email: info@software-dahl.de
2. Data on your device
Everything you enter in Fil – filaments and spools, storage locations, bookings and usage, orders, projects and parts including photos, settings, the device name and names or initials of users you create – is stored only locally in the app's storage on your device. I have no access to it.
The built-in filament database (based on the Open Filament Database) ships with the app; searches in it never leave your device.
Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in the Android settings removes this data. Backup files and sync folders you created yourself (see section 4) remain.
3. Permissions
- Camera: to scan barcodes and QR codes (e.g. the EAN on a spool or your spool label). Recognition runs on the device; camera images are neither stored nor transmitted.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only): to save a spool label to your gallery when you ask for it. Android 10 and later need no permission for this.
- Files and folders: access only to files and folders you pick yourself in the Android file picker (export, import, sync folder).
4. When you take data out of the app
The following only happens when you trigger it. You decide where the data goes; the terms of that service apply (e.g. your cloud storage or email app).
- Export, import and xlsx report: the app writes or reads a file at the location you choose.
- Sync folder: if you set up a sync folder, the app writes your data to it. If the folder is in cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive), that provider's app uploads the file – not Fil.
- Sharing: you pass lists, spool labels and other content to an app of your choice via the Android share sheet.
5. Bug reports
You can create a bug report in the app. It is shown to you before sending and is sent via your own email app to fehler.fil@software-dahl.de. It contains: app version, device model, Android version, a log of recent actions and errors in the app (without your entries, names or file paths) and – only if you switch it on – a screenshot of the app. In addition, your email address and whatever you write yourself.
I use this solely to find and fix the bug (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete it once done, at the latest after 12 months.
6. Reporting filaments
With “Report filaments” you can send me filaments the app does not know yet, or add missing details. The report is sent via your email app to ofd@software-dahl.de and contains the filament data (e.g. brand, material, colour, diameter, spool size, EAN) and your email address.
The filament data may be added to the public, openly licensed Open Filament Database and to future versions of the app. I never pass on personal data such as your name or email address. I delete the email itself once processed, at the latest after 12 months. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (improving the filament database).
7. In-app purchases (Google Play)
Paid features are purchased through Google Play billing. Google handles the purchase and payment under the Google Privacy Policy. I receive no payment details, only the order information Google provides for processing (e.g. order number, product, time, country). The app checks with Google Play whether a purchase exists. I keep order information as long as tax and commercial law require (up to 10 years; Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR).
8. Google and Android services
- Google Play: Google processes data under its own privacy policy when you download and update the app. If you agreed in your Android settings to share usage and diagnostics data, Google provides me with aggregated crash and performance statistics that do not identify you.
- Android backup: if Google backup is enabled on your device, Android may back up the app's data to your Google account. You control this in the Android settings; I have no access to it.
9. Children
The app is not directed at children under 16.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). An informal email to info@software-dahl.de is enough. As the only data I hold comes from emails you sent me, this usually concerns those emails.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for me is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Alt-Moabit 59–61, 10555 Berlin, Germany, www.datenschutz-berlin.de.
11. Changes
If the app changes in a way that affects how data is handled, I will update this policy. The version published here applies.
Datenschutzerklärung der App Fil
Stand: 29.
1. Verantwortlicher
Frank Dahl (Software Dahl)Hainstr. 7, 12439 Berlin, Deutschland
E-Mail: info@software-dahl.de
10. Deine Rechte
